Recommended Shutter Speeds

The following ar

e tips for setting the shutter

speed. Use a shutter speed based on your

subject and photographic objectives.

Tips on Using the Manual

Shutter Speed

Fast shutter speeds can be used to captur

e

fast-moving objects such as a racehorse or

athlete. The subject will look fr

ozen in motion.

Slower shutter speeds can be used in take

pictur

es under low lighting conditions such as

the evening light of the moon.

Slower shutter speeds can also be used

when you want the image blurr

ed so it shows

a trail of motion, such as in str

eams or

water

falls.

Notes:

W

ith 1/500, you can captur

e most spor

ts.

However

, it may blur par

ts that ar

e moving faster

than the ar

ea of focus, like the clear head and

torso of a galloping horse but with blurr

y legs.

Recor

ding with a shutter speed faster than 1/60

sec. tends to darken the pictur

e. Recor

d in

bright locations when you use a fast shutter

speed.

Use of a tripod is r

ecommended when using a

slow shutter speed to avoid camera shaking

unless you have a special r

eason to hold the

camera by hand.

Using a fast shutter speed under fluor

escent

lighting will cause flickering in the pictur

e and

possibly color shifts.

When selecting 1/30 sec., you may get a

shadow image behind a subject that is in motion.

To captur

moderately moving

objects.
