Transmission Fluid

Transmission lubrication is essential and must be
maintained to ensure long life of the transmission. It is
extremely important to use proper fluid. Also, it is
important to check and change oil as outlined in the
maintenance schedule below.

Transmission Maintenance Schedule

Check case housing for damage and possible fluid
leakage after each use.

Check transmission fluid level every 100 hours or ever 6
months of operation, whichever comes first.

Change transmission fluid every 1000 hrs or
immediately if water gets into it.

Transmission Fluid Type and Capacity

See also "Section 10 Specifications and Capacities" on
page 42.

Type of Fluid: 5W30 Synthetic motor oil (S/N 460312+)
Dextron 3 automatic transmission fluid (S/N 460311-)

Fluid capacity: 2 quarts or fill to the full mark, “H” mark
on the dipstick.

Transmission Oil Level Check

Refer to Figure 7-8

Check transmission oil level at the dip stick as follows:

1.

Prepare vehicle for maintenance as outlined in steps
1-6 on page 24.

2.

Allow enough time for transmission oil to settle before
checking oil level at the dipstick. Oil level may be
checked cold or after several hours of operation.

3.

Clean around the dipstick before removing it to keep
dirt and debris out of the transmission.

4.

Remove dipstick and wipe clean.

5.

Fully insert dipstick and remove. Oil, hot or cold,
should be at the “H” mark on the dipstick but not over.

6.

If oil level on dipstick is low, fill at the dipstick opening
with recommended oil. Repeat steps 3, 4, 5 and 6 until
oil level on dipstick indicates full. Do not overfill.

Transmission Fluid Change

Refer to Figure 7-8 and Figure 7-9

NOTE: Running vehicle low on transmission oil can
damage transmission and void its warranty.

100 hrs / 6 mos.

1000 hrs

Warm oil drains quickly and completely. Drain used oil
while it is still warm as follows:

1.

Prepare vehicle for maintenance as outlined in steps
1-6 on page 24.

2.

Place a suitable container below housing to catch
used oil. Remove dip stick and drain plug.

3.

Allow used oil to drain completely and then reinstall
drain plug and tighten securely with 5 to 15 in. lbs. of
torque.

4.

Dispose of used oil in a manner that is compatible with
the environment. Do not throw used oil in the trash,
pour it on the ground, or down a drain.

5.

Fill transmission case with 2 quarts of Dextron 3
automatic transmission fluid at the dipstick port. Do
not overfill
. See "Section 10 Specifications and
Capacities"
on page 42.

6.

Replace dipstick and check oil level.
