Encoder Card

Refer to the “Test Page” again. The current
Temperature is the ambient temperature at the
encoder card in degrees celcius. Printing slows to
prevent overheating. Overheating can cause
excessive ink flow from the print cartridges. The
normal operating range is from 16 to 32 degrees
celcius. If the Current Temperature indicates
“Thermal Sensor Not Installed”, check the
printhead cable connector J10 at the system
board. Also, check the connector at the encoder
card. If the problem continues, replace the system
board.

Maintenance
Station

Intermittent nozzle failures can be caused by worn
parts in the maintenance station. Perform the

“Maintenance Station Service Check,”on
page 2-10

, then return to this check.

Paper Feed

Ink smudging and smearing can be caused by
paper problems or problems in the paper feed
area.

Check the following:

• Correct type of paper is being used.
• Paper for curl or wrinkles.
• Feed rollers for wear, dirt, or looseness.
• Gears for wear or binds.
• Paper path for obstructions.

Transport

Blurred print and voids can be caused by problems
in the transport area. Check the following:

• Carrier belt for wear.
• Carrier shaft for wear or dirt.
• Carrier to carrier frame engagement is not

binding.

• Idler pulley for wear, damage, looseness.
• Encoder strip for wear or dirt.

Alignment

Uneven vertical lines can be adjusted by
performing the printhead alignment adjustment.
The user performs the head to head and printhead
alignment adjustment when replacing a print
cartridge.
