Example of connections

The time code generator of the VTR unit can be locked to an
external generator.

1

Set the POWER switch to ON.

2

Set the TCG selector switch to F-RUN.

4

Supply the reference time code and the
reference video signal, whose phase
relationship is such that the time code
standard is met, to the TC IN connector
and GENLOCK IN connector, respectively.

3

Set the COUNTER selector switch to TC.

Concerning the user’s bit setting during
external lock

When the unit’s time code is externally locked, only the time data is
locked to the time data of the time code supplied from the external
source. This means that the user’s bit can be set separately for
each component.
Further, by selecting EXT for the UB MODE item of the VTR
FUNCTION sub-menu, the user’s bit can also be locked to the
user’s bit of the time code supplied from the external source.

To release the external lock

First stop supplying the external time code, and then set the TCG
switch to F-RUN.

To switch the power from the battery to an
external power supply during external lock

In order to maintain the continuity of the time code generator’s
power supply, first connect the external power supply to the DC IN
socket, and then remove the battery pack. No guarantee can be
made for the continuity of the time code’s external lock if the battery
pack is removed first.

External synchronization of the camera unit
during external lock

During external lock, the camera unit is gen-locked by the reference
video signal supplied to the GENLOCK IN connector.

This now locks the unit’s built-in time code generator to the
reference time code.
After 10 seconds have elapsed from the time when the generator
was locked, the external lock status will be retained even if the
reference time code from the external source is disconnected.
However, connecting or disconnecting the time code during
recording (REC) will give rise to disturbances in the servo lock.

<Note>

When external lock is activated, the time code is locked to the
external time code instantly, and the same value as the external
code value, such as ETC 01:23:45:39, will be displayed on the
viewfinder.
Do not establish the recording mode for the several seconds it takes
for the operation of the sync generator to become stable.
