If no station broadcasts the EDS signal (or
if you do not know which channel sends an
EDS signal), press
SEL t to select MANUAL
SET and skip to Step 2 under “Manually
Setting the Clock” on Page 16.
Note: Your VCR has a memory sentinel
feature that protects clock settings for up to
3 minutes if a power failure occurs or if the
power cord becomes unplugged. After
about 3 minutes without power, the VCR
loses the clock setting. If EDS is available
in your area, the VCR automatically
updates the clock setting according to the
EDS signal when power is restored.
6. Be sure AUTO SET is highlighted, then
press SET . The VCR asks if you are using
a cable box.
• If you connected your VCR to an
antenna or to cable TV without a cable
box, highlight
NO and press SET . The
VCR prompts you to enter the local PBS
channel. Use
SEL s / t to select the chan-
nel, then press SET . It takes up to 10
minutes for the VCR to set the clock
using the EDS signal.
• If you connected your VCR to a cable
system with a cable box, highlight YES
and press SET . The VCR asks you to
select your cable system setup.
If you connected the cable box’s output
to the VCR’s input:
a. Highlight CABLE BOX -> VCR -> TV ,
then press SET .
b. Set your cable box to the local PBS
channel, then press SET .
c. Use SEL s/t to select the cable box’s
output channel. If you use an audio/
video connection between the cable box
and VCR, select
VIDEO OUT . Then
press SET .
If you connected a cable box between
the VCR and your TV:
a. Highlight VCR -> CABLE BOX -> TV ,
then press SET .
b. Use SEL s/t to select the local PBS
channel, then press SET .
It takes up to 10 minutes for the VCR to set
the clock using the EDS signal. If the VCR
does not detect an EDS signal within about
30 seconds, it automatically displays the
manual clock setting screen.
