Possible Cause

High or gusting winds.

Low on LP gas.

Excess flow valve tripped.

Grease buildup.

Excessive fat in meat.

Excessive cooking
temperature.

Grease trapped by food
buildup around burner
system.

Grease soaked into briquets

Burner and/or burner tubes
are blocked.

Some dealers have older fill
nozzles with worn threads.

Grease or food particles in
slot underneath lip on carry-
over tube

Problem

Flames blow out.

Flare-up.

Persistent grease
fire (can damage
the appearance of
steel panels and
aluminum castings
on the grill).

Flashback...
(fire in burner
tube(s)

Unable to fill LP
tank
.

One burner
doesn't
light off other
burner(s)

Prevention/Cure

Turn front of grill to face wind or
increase flame height.

Refill LP tank.

Refer to "Sudden drop in gas flow"
above.

Clean grill.

Trim fat from meat before grilling.

Adjust (lower) temperature
accordingly.

Turn knob(s) to OFF. Turn gas off
at LP tank. Leave lid in position and
let fire burn out. After grill cools,
remove, clean all parts and replace
soup can.

Replace briquets. If cooking with
fatty meats remove briquets.

Turn knob(s) to OFF. Clean burner
and/or burner tubes.

The worn nozzles don't have
enough "bite" to engage the valve.
Try a second LP dealer.

Clean carry-over tube(s) with wire
brush.
