DANGER!

8.3 CUTTING COMPONENT INSPECTION

Inspect blade pan and blade assembly for the following:

Damaged Pan

Cause: Blade Pan contacts an immovable
object while mower was in motion.

Remedy: Inspect the area before mowing
to determine where the immovable objects
are located and place visible hazard
markers to identify the areas. Avoid mowing
in the area where immovable foreign objects
exist.

Notches and Gouges

Cause: Blade contacting foreign

objects

Remedy: Inspect the area to be mowed

and remove foreign objects that
could cause damage to the blades

Excessive Blade Wear

Cause:

Mower height set too low.
Blade used past intended life.

Remedy: Replace Blades more often.

Adjust mower height for mowing
conditions to eliminate blade-to-
ground contact.

Original Blade Edge

Original Blade Edge

Inspect the Blades daily for abnormal wear. REPLACE BOTH BLADES on that carrier
IMMEDIATELY if either blade has:

Become bent or deformed from it’s original shape, or

Any cracks are visible, or

Deep gouges in the blades surface are present, or

Gouges or chipped areas in the cutting edge are larger than 1/2”, or

The material on the leading edge has been worn away by more than 1/2”.

Failure to replace abnormally worn blades may lead to catastrophic failure of the blade and
ejection of the broken part with tremendous force which may cause serious bodily injury or
death!
