4–Preparation for Use

Card write protection

SD cards have protect switches that prevent

writing new data to them.

Unprotected

Protected

If you slide the protect switch to the "LOCK"

position, file recording and editing is not possible.

Move the switch to the unlocked position in order

to record, erase and otherwise edit data on the

card.

Setting the date and time

Using its internal clock, this unit remembers the

date and time when a file is recorded.

1 Press the

MENU

key to open the

MENU

screen.

2 Use the wheel to select

DATE/TIME

, and press the

ENTER/MARK

key.

3 Use the

µ/≤

keys to move the cursor, and use

the wheel to change values.

4 Press the

ENTER/MARK

key to confirm the change

and return to the

MENU

screen.

NOTE

You can set the unit to automatically add the date and

time to file names. (See “Setting the file name format”

on page 42.)

CAUTION

The date and time setting can only be maintained

for a few minutes when the unit is not powered by

batteries or an AC adapter. When using batteries, we

recommend that you replace or recharge them before

they completely lose power.

Using the built-in speaker

Set the

SPEAKER

switch to

ON

to listen to a playing

track through the built-in speaker.

NOTE

Even when ON, no sound is output during recording,

in recording standby or when headphones are

connected.

Connecting monitors and

headphones

To listen with headphones, connect them to the

connector.
To listen with an external monitoring system

(powered speakers or an audio system), connect it

to the

LINE OUT

connector.
