Topic: S400 Redesigned Power Divider Parts for Service
Affected Models: S400 Forward Carriers
The power divider gearing in the Dana S400, forward carriers have been redesigned. These new components are NOT
interchangeable with original design S400 components. The redesigned components (pictured below) include the helical
side gear, inter-axle differential and the output side gear. If the original design helical side gear requires replacing, you
must also change the mating IAD assembly and the output side gear. These parts are all contained in a NEW service
S400 Helical Gear Retrofit kit, Dana P/N 512865.
Any new Dana Exchange Carrier unit built after September 2
nd , 2003 will be built with the new design parts. The Repair
procedures and endplay measurement specifications when using the new parts have not changed. Refer to Dana service
manual SHABD195-1 (AXSM1951) for details.
