D170, D190 Input Yoke Spacer Elimination

____________________________________________________________

Affected Models:

All D170, D190

Background: Dana engineering has released a new input yoke assembly for D170 and D190 drive axles
that will eliminate the use of input spacer part number 132862. On production models built BEFORE
February 27, 2007 the spacer was installed between the input bearing race and the end of the yoke, the
production bill of material shows the 132931 input yoke as the part number of record.

On axles built on or AFTER February 27, 2007 OEM production bills of material converted over to using
new input yoke assembly part-no 132930, which is sold in service as part-no

5008461 or 132931K

. On

this new yoke assembly the over all height was increased by the same thickness (.551”) as the spacer
used with the original 132931 base yoke, thus eliminating the need for the spacer.

Existing Spicer End Yoke kit 132931K and 5008461 contain the new design base yoke and the spacer
should not be used with these parts. If customers have the “original old” style yoke and continue to
use it, the 132862 spacer must be used also or seal leaks will occur, leading to possible internal
axle damage or complete axle failure
. Customers can identify the different yokes by simply measuring
the overall height as shown below. The 132862 spacer will remain active thru service for a limited time,
when it becomes unavailable customers should convert to the newer yoke less the spacer.
