Service Parts Impact:

Axle Housing Hardware Kits:

Kit 512686:

The new Axle Housing Hardware kit released specifically for models built with the “Thick

Flange” carriers. This kit contains the new longer 80mm capscrews and is not designed for models built with
the original design “Thin” flange carrier.

Kit 511377:

The current Dana axle housing hardware kit for the original thin flange carriers will be obsoleted

and replaced by an existing Axle Housing Hardware Repair Kit

(P/N: 512097).

Kit 512097:

The 512097 kit, which includes a “Support Bracket” can only be used on models built with an

original “Thin” flange designed carrier. This kit now replaces the 511377 kits for all thin flange carriers.

NOTE:

SOME 23105 AXLES IN THE FIELD MAY HAVE BEEN REPAIRED WITH KIT 512097. THE KIT WHEN INSTALLED,

INCLUDES THE USE OF A “DOG-BONE” SUPPORT BRACKET MOUNTED AT THE 6:00 POSITION. IF INSTALLING A NEW
“THICK FLANGE” DESIGN CARRIER AS A REPLACEMENT, DO NOT USE THE “DOG-BONE” COLLAR ON THE NEW AXLE.
SIMPLY DISCARD IT, AS IT IS NOT DESIGNED FOR THE NEW THICK FLANGE CARRIER.

Carrier Exchange Assemblies:

Any new Carrier Exchange Assembly produced with the new “thick” flange carrier will include new carrier-to-
housing fastener parts. The carrier exchange part numbers will not change.

NOTE: With the popularity of the Dana Carrier Exchange program, stock levels of the older design carriers outlined in
this bulletin at OEM PDC’s and DEALERSHIP’S may be numerous. If you have a vehicle that is originally built with a
new style “thick” flange carrier, it can be serviced with an “older style” Carrier Exchange Assembly. The repairing
dealer must simply make sure to use the correct axle housing hardware parts when installation is done.
