This document has been created to assist customers in the diagnoses of the most common steer axle related
bushing failures. The descriptions below will help define the difference between wear and/or damage due to
contamination, installation problems and normal wear.
Failures:
Bushing Damage – Installation
Improper Kingpin Installation Improper Reaming
General Description:
Damaged bushing material, areas of bushing material bunched up or missing or gouges in bushing material.
Usual Causes:
x Improper Kingpin Installation
x Improper Tools Used to Size Bushings (if using reamable bushings)
Failure Prevention:
x Use Recommended Reaming Tools. See Dana Service Manual AXSM-0038

x Follow assembly procedures found in Dana Service Manual AXSM-0038
