Diff Lock Selector Switch Standardization

This bulletin contains product improvement information.

Dana Corporation is not commited or liable for canvassing existing product.

Effective July 1, 1996, Spicer has standardized the Diff Lock Selector Switch and Wiring Harnesses used on the

axles listed below, with those used on the DD/RD461 product line. The current selector switch (210280) has

12mm threads and the 461 axle series selector switch (129035) has 14mm threads. The wiring harness (pigtail)

connectors at the switch end are not interchangeable between the current (210280) switch and the new

(129035) switch. The old wiring harness must be replaced with a new harness that is compatible to the 129035

switch as part of the switch upgrade. Service parts requirements involving the two groups of axles will vary due

to design features and switch locations.

GROUP A AXLES

The selector switch is located on a new piston cover that now has a 14mm threaded hole to accommodate the

129035 switch. The original piston covers will be replaced by

PISTON COVER UPGRADE KITS and the 129035

selector switch is now included with any Carrier Exchange Unit built after July 1, 1996 (date code H96183).

When ordering a piston cover upgrade kit, it is important to select a kit with proper wiring harness.

GROUP B AXLES

The selector switch hole is machined into the carrier and cap assembly. When converting these axles over to the

14mm selector switch, a SELECTOR SWITCH UPGRADE KIT is available that includes a 129035 switch,

compatible wiring harness and adapter components. The adapter components as shown on page 3 of this

bulletin will enable the 14mm switch to be used in the carrier/cap housings that have the 12mm threaded hole.

As stated above, due to selector switch design, the wiring harness will also need replacing. The 129035 selector

switch is now included with any Carrier Exchange Unit or Carrier/Cap service kits produced after July 1, 1996

(date code H96183).

NOTE: Because the wiring harnesses are NOT interchangeable, Spicer suggests stocking all three (3) of

the new wiring harnesses to minimize customer down-time. A wiring harness listing by OEM usage is

provided as a guideline.

When stock of the existing 12mm switches and compatible wiring harnesses for these axles are depleted and no

longer available, the axles will need to be upgraded as described above.
