SUBJECT: Part #2240 & #2245 – JK High Clearance Off-Road Exhaust Kits

IMPORTANT: While this kit includes clamps for installation, we highly recommend that you have the exhaust system tack
welded into place after installation. Clamps are not terribly reliable and have a tendency to loosen themselves.

TOOLS: For the 2245 Tailpipe Only kit, you will only need simple hand tools. For the 2240 Muffler and Tailpipe Kit, you
will need a Sawz-All or hacksaw to cut existing exhaust pipe.

1. Remove your factory muffler. It is clamp bolted to your exhaust piping just above the rear axle, and is hung from

rubber hangers. Do not damage the rubber hangers during removal. Also remove the heat shield bolted to the
vehicle above the muffler if you desire. If you are installing this kit along with our #2205 JK Locking Security
Trunk, that heat shield will need to be removed. (Note: It is much easier to install the trunk first, so if you’ve
purchased both, it is best to do it with the exhaust removed)

MUFFLER INSTALL:

2. If you’ve purchased the #2240 Muffler and Tailpipe kit, you will begin by relocating your fuel evap canister. It is

held under the Jeep with 3 bolts. Unbolt all 3.

3. On the front side where there are two bolts side by side, you will simply move the canister toward the middle of the

Jeep and use the driver-side hole in the canister along with the passenger-side hole in the frame. The remaining two
holes will now not line up with any factory holes

4. With a center-punch, mark your other two holes in the canister on the frame to prep for drilling. Mark and drill

these holes to 5/16”.

5. Use the two 3/8” self tapping bolts supplied in the kit to bolt the evap canister to the holes you’ve marked and

drilled. The image below shows the can located next to the new muffler. Looking closely you can see how it was
shifted over.

6. The above picture shows the location of where the muffler will mount. Hold the muffler up into its location, and

mark the pipe at the ends of the muffler with a felt tip marker. Keep in mind that the pipe will need to be longer
than where you marked so that the muffler can slide onto the ends of the pipe. The sleeve on the end of the muffler
should be about 2”, but measure yours just to be accurate. Take that measurement and mark exactly where you’ll be
cutting on the pipe.

7. Cut the section of pipe out where your new muffler will be located with a hacksaw or Sawz-All.
8. Slide the muffler into place and thread your clamps on. Once you’re happy that the muffler is in straight on the front

and rotated so that it is flat with the belly of the Jeep, tighten the front clamp

9. Position the tailing portion of the factory pipe so that it is straight and clear of coil springs and any other suspension

parts. Once you’re happy with it’s location, tighten the rear clamp, and proceed to the tailpipe install.
