90854 & 90855

CJ5 Adventure Doors

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

90854 55-75 CJ5 Only

1. This earlier CJ5 did not have door hinges. In this kit hinges are

supplied. You should find in your kit two long and two short hinges.
The long hinges are for the top, short for the bottom.

2. Begin by locating the top hinge. Attach the hinge to the side of the

Jeep, so that the top edge of the hinge bracket is at the bottom edge
of the windshield hinge (see diagram to right). Alternatively, you can
locate the hinges on the inside of the doorjamb so that they point out
sideways. This may make drilling and bolting them in much more
difficult on the top hinge however. The edge of the hinge tube where it
meets the hinge bracket should sit right at the edge of the doorjamb.
Once located, mark and drill holes and bolt into place.

3. You will locate the bottom hinge in the same manner. The key to

proper installation is the spread between hinges is 13” measuring at
the top of the tube on each hinge piece. See diagram to right.

90854 & 90855 Both Models

4. Assemble the supplied latches into the tube doors. Use the hardware supplied with the door handles to screw

them into place. To be sure that you’ve got the correct door on each side, refer to the small plate near the
bottom. There is a “WP” logo stamped into them. These should be readable from the outside of the vehicle. You
can reference these to determine which door is passenger, and which door is driver.

5. With the door handles now installed into the doors, slide them into the hinges you’ve installed. If you are working

on a 76-83 model with kit #90855 you will work with the factory hinges.

6. Locate your striker pins and striker L brackets. 90854 will have two small slotted holes for mounting to the tub.

90855 will have L shaped holes to mount to the tub. Attach the pin to the bracket in the large oblong hole using a
flat washer on each side of the bracket, a lock washer, and hex nut. The pins should sit on the bracket so the
round portion is facing away from the mounting holes. These brackets are made to be left and right versions and
you will notice that they are around twice the width of the top of your tub.

7. These will mount on the tub so that they overhang to the inside of the Jeep. To mount the 90854, you will need to

snap the pin into the door latch on the door and align it in a spot that it will open and close comfortably. Make
sure that the head of the pin sits in the door latch in a comfortable place and mark and drill holes to bolt it into
place. To mount the 90855, existing soft top bolts and bolt holes can be used. These bolt into the same location
as the Soft tops soft door striker plate. Note that on the 76-83, you must remove the rear side windows, soft door
striker and rotate the loose window mount mechanism up out of the way. You should be able to Velcro it inside
the soft top.

8. With the striker plates now in place, close the door latch onto the striker pin to check alignment. Loosen the

striker pin and adjust as needed.

9. To eliminate any door rattle associated with the door latches spring mechanism, we recommend adding a rubber

bump stop of some sort (check with your local hardware store) to the door somewhere that it will come into
contact with the doorjamb.

10. Included in your kit are two rubber snubbers and screws. These are a universal part to help assist you in getting

rid of door rattle.

11. Locate a suitable location for the snubber to attach to the tube door and mark for drilling.
