6.0 Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

After each job, or halfway (approximately 24 hrs) through a very long job, it

is recommended that the machine be blown off with compressed air to remove dust
from the moving parts. Blanket wash may be used to remove ink from rollers/tires.
Occasional application of a rubber roller rejuvenator will help keep the rollers/tires
in good shape. The machine should have a thorough cleaning once a week.

6.2 Maintenance

The pump that is used by the airfeed should be maintained regularly to maintain

optimum performance from the feeder. Please refer to the operating instructions for the
pump that was included with the machine.

Occasionally, belt tension and bearing play should be checked and adjusted to

ensure consistent operation. To access these, the plastic side covers must be removed
by undoing the 4 screws that hold each in place. The main rollers (the one with the hand
wheel) have a bearing stabilizer located on either side. The bottom roller must be held
tight with a single set screw and the top roller must be held from moving back and forth
(but allowed to move up/down) with 2 set screws and a bronze guide plate. Proper belt
tension is also critical to obtain consistency. The belt should be tight enough that no
play is visible between the motor pulley and the main roller pulley, but loose enough
that excess friction is not created. The main rollers are seated in sealed bearings and
do not require lubrication, the exit rollers and exit tire shaft utilize oil impregnated
bronze bushings and should have a drop of oil applied occasionally. Wipe off excess so
that stock being run is not contaminated.

IMPORTANT: the Panasonic Programmable Logic Controller mounted on the

non-operator side has a battery for back-up of program and data. This battery should
be changed every year (1) to ensure proper operation. The battery is located on the back of
the PLC at the top of the unit. Turn off power. Batteries may be ordered from Graphic
Whizard Inc.
