6. Installation

a) mounting

Make sure to install the VDPSP0x in a dry location with a normal airflow for sufficient cooling.

b) DMX-512 connections

Make sure all devices are switched off and disconnected from the mains before making any

connections.

Connect an XLR cable to the XLR output of a controller (not incl.) and the other side to the male

XLR input [1] of the VDPSP0x.

To link multiple VDPSP0xs obtain a suitable linking cable (not incl.). Connect the cable to the

female (=out) DMX Tru connector [2] of the VDPSP0x and the other end to the male (=in)

DMX in connector [1].

Notes:

Do not use both 3-pin and 5-pin input or output simultaneously (VDPSP04).

The linking cable should be a dual core, screened cable with XLR input and output

connectors.

Maximum recommended serial data link distance is 500 meters (1640 ft). Maximum

recommended number of fixtures on a serial data link is 32 fixtures.

On the last VDPSP0x in the chain, enable the DMX terminator by pressing the terminator

button [3]. The terminator prevents corruption of the digital control signal by electrical noise.

Connect your DMX devices (not incl.) to the female output ports [4].

VDPSP04: only use either the 3-pin or 5-pin output connector of an output channel; never

connect DMX devices to both output ports at the same time.

Note: every last device on a DMX chain connected to an output [4] of the VDPSP0x must get

its own terminator. The DMX terminator is simply an XLR plug with a 120Ω resistor between

pins 2 and 3, which is then plugged into the XLR output socket of the last device in the chain.

7. Operation

Have a qualified electrician carry out the electrical connection.

Connect the device to the mains with the power plug. All fixtures must be powered directly off a

grounded switched circuit and cannot be run off a rheostat or dimmer circuit, even if the rheostat

or dimmer channel is used solely for 0% to 100% switch.

The red LEDs [5] switch on when the DMX output channels are powered; the green LEDs [5]

indicate the presence of a DMX signal on the indicated channel.

8. Cleaning and maintenance

This unit does not need regular maintenance.

All screws should be tight and free of corrosion.

The electric power supply cables must not show any damage. Have a qualified technician maintain

the device.

Regularly remove dust from the housing and the air vents using a slightly damp cloth.

There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer to an authorized dealer for service and/or spare

parts.
