Ingalls Stiffy ™ Engine Torque Damper For 2000-2004 Ford Focus

The Stiffy™ Adjustable Engine Torque Damper is engineered to reduce deflection under hard acceleration

and cornering for improved performance and power to weight transfer. Deflection in the motor mounts, as with the
chassis and suspension, is a formidable enemy in power and weight transfer, robbing valuable horsepower and control.
The innovative, built-in damper eliminates the huge amounts of “torque shock” that result from wheel-hop and once
installed; transfers more power to the road and improves acceleration, shifting, overall control and balance. The
adjustable feature allows the assembly to be tuned and pre-loaded for racing and street applications.

CAUTION: Observe proper safety and repair procedures for installation of all chassis parts. Some chassis parts require specialized tools and experience and
therefore MUST be installed by a qualified technician otherwise an unsafe vehicle and/or personal injury could result. Wear safety glasses and other protection.
WARNING: Before beginning, check for any damaged or loose suspension connections. Loose connections here indicate worn or broken parts which MUST BE
REPLACED. Failure to replace a damaged or worn spindle and/or link may cause the wheel to separate from the vehicle, possibly resulting in serious personal
injury. Installer MUST check for proper clearance. Modification(s) may be required. Please proceed ONLY if the vehicle owner is completely aware of these
potential suspension modifications.

Installation:
1. Support the motor from underneath the passenger side. Make sure to use wood or rubber blocks to distribute the

load of the engines weight on the jack.

2. Locate and remove the coolant overflow tank. This tank is removed using a 10 mm socket and a large flathead
screwdriver. Be cautious not to damage clip on the coolant overflow tank.

3. Locate and remove the two (18 mm socket) M12 hex head motor mount nuts, shown in Illustration 1. As you
remove these nuts watch for movement in the engine, if you see movement STOP and recheck that the motor is
supported.

4. Install the motor mount bracket included in the kit over the studs on the passenger side motor mount. Check for
clearance between the bracket and the timing cover. Reinstall the (18 mm) M12 hex head nuts removed in step
3 do not re-torque them just get them finger tight at this point. Check to make sure your bracket orientation
matches Illustration 1.

5. Locate and remove the three (15 mm socket) M10 chassis mount bolts, as seen in Illustration 2.

6. Locate and remove the power steering reservoir. DO NOT disconnect the reservoir from the system, just place the
unit out of the way.

7. Position the chassis mounting bracket included in the kit, check for proper alignment of the bracket and the
chassis mount. A pry bar may be needed to reposition the OEM bracket into its proper position. Refer to
Illustration 3 for proper bracket orientation. Reinstall the M10 chassis mount bolts. Now that both brackets are
installed and finger tight check for 13 mm to 17 mm of space between the two supplied brackets, this is important
