Ingalls Stiffy ™ Engine Torque Damper For 2004+ Mazda RX-8

The Stiffy™ Adjustable Engine Torque Damper is engineered to reduce deflection under hard acceleration

and cornering for improved performance and power to weight transfer. Deflection in the motor mounts, as with the
chassis and suspension, is a formidable enemy in power and weight transfer, robbing valuable horsepower and
control. The innovative, built-in damper eliminates the huge amounts of “torque shock” that result from wheel-hop
and once installed; transfers more power to the road and improves acceleration, shifting, overall control and balance.
The adjustable feature allows the assembly to be tuned and pre-loaded for racing and street applications.

CAUTION: Observe proper safety and repair procedures for installation of all chassis parts. Some chassis parts require specialized tools and experience and
therefore MUST be installed by a qualified technician otherwise an unsafe vehicle and/or personal injury could result. Wear safety glasses and other protection.
WARNING: Before beginning, check for any damaged or loose suspension connections. Loose connections here indicate worn or broken parts which MUST
BE REPLACED. Failure to replace a damaged or worn spindle and/or link may cause the wheel to separate from the vehicle, possibly resulting in serious
personal injury. Installer MUST check for proper clearance. Modification(s) may be required. Please proceed ONLY if the vehicle owner is completely aware of
these potential suspension modifications.

Installation:
1. Remove the factory engine cover by pulling up slightly at the front to unseat the mounts and then towards the front of the

vehicle to unseat the rear mounts.

2. Locate the alternator on the top front of the engine. Remove the adjustment nut from the front of the adjustment slot and
loosen the tensioning bolt just enough to relax the drive belt. Remove the lower alternator mounting bolt. Install the Engine
Mount Bracket using the supplied M10x1.25x110mm bolt at the lower mounting hole, but do not tighten. Align the Engine
Mount Bracket slot with alternator bracket slot and loosely reinstall the alternator adjustment nut and tighten the drive belt
with the tensioning bolt. Tighten the upper adjustment nut and lower alternator mounting bolt. Refer to Illustration 1.

3. Chassis Mounting Bracket Installation:

A. For OEM strut bars. Locate and remove the strut tower mounting nuts on both side and remove strut bar.

Loosen the three nuts that secure the passenger side strut tower (horseshoe shaped) bracket and remove.
Install the Chassis Mounting Bracket onto the strut tower and replace OEM strut tower bracket. Tighten the
brackets using the supplied flange nuts. Reinstall the factory strut bar. Refer to Illustration 2 & 3.

B. For aftermarket strut bars. Locate and remove the strut tower mounting bracket from the passenger side, you

may be able to leave the strut bar and driver’s side bracket in place. Install the Chassis Mounting Bracket onto
the strut tower and replace aftermarket strut tower bracket. Tighten the brackets using the supplied flange nuts.
Refer to Illustration 2 & 3.
