1. Safety instructions
This chaotic pendulum is not a toy,
but an experimental device, which
can have a large amount of kinetic
energy. Improper handling can re-
sult in severe injury.
•
Do not install or operate the chaotic pendu-
lum within reach of children.
•
Ensure clear distance of all observers to the
chaotic pendulum, while it spins.
•
Do not attempt to stop the chaotic pendu-
lum, while it spins.
•
Do not operate the chaotic pendulum, while
it is held in hand.
•
Find a place to attach the chaotic pendulum
in which also the spinning outer arm is cov-
ered from the rear by a wall.
•
Do not let the outer arm spin into a passage
or a room.
•
Ensure that the chaotic pendulum is at-
tached to solid structure before spinning.
2. Quality note
In order to reduce friction load, only three of four
bearings of the chaotic pendulum are housed in
a press fit. The fourth bearing is intentionally
housed in a loose fit.
3. Starting the chaotic pendulum
The chaotic pendulum takes on a particularly
high kinetic energy, when the two arms are
folded and pushed together, so that initially the
inner arm can make a full rotation.
