3 Installation

3.1 General Information

Before beginning, please carefully note: CAUTION:
STATIC ELECTRICITY MAY DAMAGE THE IQ-PIP
USP2 ADAPTER and/or the IQ-PIP USP2 MODULE
.
Use caution when handling these units. Carefully
ground yourself BEFORE touching the modules. Don’t
unnecessarily touch the connectors, components or
solder pads on the circuit boards.

3.2 Prepare the Adapter

1. Set the Amp Scaling Factor DIP Switches. The

Amp Scaling Factor DIP Switches are located
near the right edge of the circuit board (see
Figure 2.1). To allow the PIP1 amplifier to be
scaled for universal operation, these switches
must be confi gured according to the amplifi er
type. To determine the proper setting, refer to the
DIP Switch Settings Key located on the circuit
board, or to the complete chart in Figure 3.1.
Turn “ON” the switches in each bank as indicated
on the DIP Switch Settings Key. An example DIP
switch setting, as confi gured for CT 70V amplifi er
operation, is shown in Figure 3.2.

3.3 Prepare the Amplifi er

CAUTION: Make sure the power switch on the
front of the amplifi er is turned off and the unit is
disconnected from its power source.
Please Note:
Some first-generation CT models
require a different procedure for installing the IQ-
PIP-USP2 Adapter. Also, some newer MA-5000VZ
amplifi ers are already PIP2-compatible and do not
require the adapter for use with the IQ-PIP-USP2
module. Older MA-5000VZ amplifi ers are not PIP2-
compatible, but require a different procedure for
installing the IQ-PIP-USP2 Adapter. See Section 1.2
for more information.
Refer to Figure 3.3 for locations of the parts described
in this procedure.
1. Remove the cover of the amplifi er. Locate the

cover of the amplifier closest to the PIP cage
and remove the ten (10) screws securing the
cover. This will allow you to gain access to the
PIP cage. You will need a T15-size Torx driver to
remove the screws.

2. Remove the PIP module. Remove any previously

installed PIP card by unscrewing the two Phillips
drive screws from the back panel that secure the
PIP module in the amplifi er.

3. Remove the cable ties. Cable ties secure

both the 16-pin PIP connector cable and the
5-pin signal connector. Snip each cable tie and
remove.

4. Remove the edge card connector. The edge

card connector is held by two screws which have
been secured with a strong adhesive. To remove,
you may need to use channel locks, vise grips
or adjustable pliers. CAUTION: To ensure safe
operation of the amplifier, any parts of this
assembly that are accidentally dropped in
the amplifi er must be retrieved.
Replacement
mounting assembly pieces are provided in case
of assembly parts damage.

5. Remove the 16-pin PIP1 connector cable. Take

care when removing this 16-pin ribbon cable to
ensure no pins are bent.

6. Remove the 5-pin signal cable.
