12: Window

This PLUGE Bar is the only bar which should be visible

Description:

Centered 1/3 white window on black background. Luminance levels of Window are

independently adjustable from 0 IRE to 100 IRE in 2.5 IRE steps. The window pattern includes PLUGE
level bars at +5% and –5% of black to the left of the white window.

Variations:

Pressing The Window button multiple times, or holding the Window button, sequences the

window Luminance Level from black to white, then white to black.

Pattern Usage:

Use the white window to measure chromaticity of a display device. This pattern is

preferable to using a full field white raster since the window pattern more closely duplicates the average
picture level (APL) of typical program material and doesn’t unnaturally stress display circuits.
Press or hold the Window button to sequence the brightness level of the window from black to white in
2.5 IRE steps.

Examples of Uncalibrated Displays:

The following image indicates a TV with the brightness level set

too low. The +5% PLUGE bar is not visible.
