SHOWER BENCH INSTALLATION

TIME REQUIRED

1 -2 HR.

Congratulations on the purchase of your Shower Bench!

These instructions will guide you through the installation.

1. Clean all the surfaces of the bench and shower walls. Make sure they are

completely dry before beginning installation.
2. Sand the backside and bottom of the bench with 60 grit sandpaper. Also sand

the wall tiles that the bench will cover when installed. Sanding these areas will

increase the bond with the silicone.
3. Place bench into position. Due to variations in your existing walls and the slope

of the shower pan you may need to place 1/8” provided plastic shims under the

front edge of the bench to keep it firmly in place. Make sure the shims don’t stick

out from the bottom of the shower bench. You may also want to lightly sand the

backside of the bench to better fit your wall surface.
4. Make sure the bench sits straight and secure before moving onto the next step.

The grout line along the bottom edge may vary in size due to the slope of the

shower pan.

6. Also apply a bead of silicone bathroom sealant in a zig zag pattern over the

entire surface below that first bead and around the perimeter (fig. 1)

.

7. Place the shower bench into position and apply pressure until it has securely

bonded to the wall (fig. 2). You may want to use a brace to hold the shower

bench in position.
8. After the bench is securely bonded to the walls, apply grout into the joints

between the bench, walls, and floor (fig. 2). Allow to dry. Repeat these steps if

9. Use a clean damp sponge to wipe away excess grout. Allow the grout and silicone

time to cure before use.

Refer to silicone manufacturer’s recommendations for application

and drying time.

Use GE Silicone II Window and Door / 100% Silicone ONLY

DO NOT USE LIQUID NAILS as the adhesive.

Note: A 3/16” bead “normally” completely cures in 24 hours. The cure time could vary depending on the moisture in the air. Lack of humidity

will make the curing process slower. It might take up to 48 hours for caulk to cure under cooler or dryer conditions.

5. The silicone needs to be spread out evenly on the bench and wall. Allow

the air to activate the silicone, letting the silicone rest 10-15 minutes until tacky,

but not crusting. The time will depend on room temperature. Too thick of an

application of silicone will prevent the silicone from drying.

Troubleshooting - Bench breaks free from wall

Area was unclean and not roughed with sandpaper before applying silicone, silicone will not stick to an unclean or greasy surface.

Too much silicone applied, if excessive silicone is applied, silicone will become dry on the outside but wet on the inside, never drying.

Not enough time allowed for silicone to become activated and tacky. If the bench is installed immediately after silicone is applied, the silicone

will not be activated by the air, and will not dry once sealed to the air after installing the bench.

grout joint is wider than 1/8”. Joint should not be wider than 1/4”.
