CHAPTER 2-Getting Started

THEORY OF OPERATION

The Pressure Limit Valve (PLV-1000) is a pressure sensing device used to control a pneumatic circuit.
The PLV-1000 transfers dynamic fluid pressure into a measurable air signal that can be used to override
or control a pneumatic control circuit or control components. The PLV-1000 is normally used in
conjunction with a pilot operated air valve to shut down components or systems when an over pressure
situation occurs. As with all sensing devices, the PLV-1000 should be maintained and kept clean at all
times. Under normal operating conditions the PLV-1000 should be a low or maintenance free component
for the end user.

The PLV-1000 is normally plugged directly into a TEE or Y in the output fluid line or into a manifold. On
the top of the PLV-1000 a control signal is plumbed into one side of a tee or y fitting and passed through
to a control valve or switch. Under normal operating pressures the PLV-1000 is closed and forces the
control signal thru to the control valve or switch. (FIG 1.0)

FIG 1.0

When the fluid pressure reaches around 2500-2700 psi, the poppet assembly will move off the Valve
Body Seat. This will allow the control signal to escape the Valve Body and vent to atmosphere instead of
activating the control valve or switch. (FIG 2.0)
