Mr. Gasket 9819 Valve Cover Caps - Manual

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
CHROME-PLATED VALVE COVER CAPS
FITS: SB CHEVY 1987-LATER INNER RAIL DESIGN FACTORY OEM VALVE COVERS
NOTE: The factory OEM valve covers do not have to be removed from the
cylinder heads to install Mr. Gasket Valve Cover Caps. These valve cover
caps fit over the factory valve covers and fasten to the cylinder head
using existing mounting hardware or Mr. Gasket #9822 chrome-plated
Hold-Down Kit. On some vehicle applications, it may be necessary to
move or disconnect various auxiliary engine components to provide
clearance for installing valve cover caps. If necessary, refer to the
manufacturer’s service manual for correct procedure.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE ENGINE, RADIATOR, AND ALL AUXILIARY COMPONENTS
ARE COOL BEFORE STARTING INSTALLATION.
1. The factory valve covers should be clean and free from dirt and oil.
2. Remove PCV valve(s) and oil filler cap from valve covers.
3. Remove hold-down bolts from center of valve covers. Hold-down bolts are
equipped with torx-type head. For removal, use a no. 30 torx drive tip tool.
NOTE: If gaskets underneath factory valve covers are leaking and need to be
replaced, use Mr. Gasket #168 or #5867 Ultra-Seal™ Valve Cover Gaskets
for optimum sealing.
4. Place a bead of silicone sealer (use Mr. Gasket #7808 for optimum sealing)
around the top of each mounting hole on the factory valve covers to
prevent oil leakage.
5. Place valve cover cap over factory valve cover and push down until fully seated.
Two (2) hole design fits driver’s side and one (1) hole design fits passenger side
cylinder head.
6. Insert hold-down bolts into mounting holes. Starting with the two (2) center
bolts, tighten to manufacturer’s specification.
NOTE: Use optional Mr. Gasket chrome-plated Hold-Down Kit #9822 to replace
the existing factory mounting hardware. This kit consists of four (4)
hold-down bolts, complete with four (4) flat washers for each valve cover.
7. Re-install the PCV valve(s) and oil filler cap into valve covers.
