Microphone Placement

Choral Ensembles

Point the microphones at the center row of the ensemble.

Unlike instrument ensembles, where some instruments are

naturally louder than others, vocal ensembles generally

practice to create the best blend between all voices. Aiming

your stereo microphone field toward the center of the

ensemble will allow you to capture all sections and any soloists.

Power User Tip: Use your ears; they are your best “stereo pair”!

Every room and ensemble is different, so listen at various

distances to get an idea of how the sound is reflecting in the room.

You can even record in a few different positions and compare

the quality to help select the best position for your space.
