Subscription License - a subscription license enables all applicable Brocade Virtual ADX software

features to perform based on specified individual throughput levels for a specific annual term or
period. Brocade Essential Support is provided as part of the subscription license for the specified
annual term. Essential Support includes 24×7 access to the Technical Assistance Center (TAC)
(available through phone, e-mail, the Web), software updates and online self-service tools. A
number of throughput options are available: 10 Mbps, 200 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 3 Gbps, 5 Gbps, and 10
Gbps.

Pay-as-you-go license - a pay-as-you-go license consists of multiple tiers of pricing based on

consumption i.e. the number of Brocade Virtual ADX instances used on a per month basis. A direct
contract between Brocade and the customer is required to subscribe to the Pay-as-you-go program.

NOTE
To view the license details after installing a Brocade Virtual ADX instance, use the show license
command at the Privileged EXEC level of the CLI.

NOTE
The license on one instance of the high availability (HA) pair is not transferred to the other instance.
Each instance requires its own license. The user is responsible for ensuring an equal level of licensing
and resources for virtual machines in a HA pair.

Software license terminology

Entitlement certificate - The proof-of-purchase license certificate is an electronic file. It is

generated when the order is confirmed. The information pertaining to the confirmed order is emailed
as an instruction together with the license certificate.

NOTE
Software download is a separate process in addition to license purchase. You are required to input
the unique serial number in the Brocade Virtual ADX software installation process in order to get
access to Brocade Technical Assistance Center (TAC) support.

License file - The file produced by Brocade, contained within the entitlement certificate when the

order is confirmed. The license file is uploaded to the Brocade Virtual ADX instance and enables
the specific performance or throughput tier as well as the all of the features associated with the
software.

Serial number - This is a number that uniquely identifies the Brocade Virtual ADX instance. The

unique serial number is used to validate the proof-of-purchase and software license for the Brocade
Virtual ADX.

Obtaining and installing a license file

The license entitlement is issued to the customer along with an email message for further instruction,
when the customer confirms the purchase of the Brocade Virtual ADX license. The serial number must
be added, using the the serial-number command, to the Brocade Virtual ADX instance after it is first
installed. Subsequently, the serial number can be retrieved using the show serial-number command.
