Gas Valve Replacement

Tools required:

Adjustable Wrench

Pipe Sealant

Pipe Wrench

Gas Leak Testing Solution

1/4 in. Nut Driver

Directions

1) Turn toggle switch that is located on the control panel to the OFF position.

2) Unplug heater power cord from it’s receptacle.

3) Turn ball valve to the closed position.

4) Shut OFF gas supply up stream of the heater’s gas hose.

5) Disconnect gas hose from the ball valve.

6) Attach pipe wrench to 3/4 in. pipe nipple that extends from the gas valve to the ball

valve, turn counter clockwise removing the 3/4 in. pipe nipple and the ball valve.

7) Remove the bolt located directly beneath the brass orifice, from the under side of

the heater bottom.

8) Disconnect the red and green wires going to the gas valve.

9) Remove the gas valve from the heater.

10) Remove orifice and 1/4 in. pipe nipple assembly from the original gas valve.

11) Apply pipe sealant to threads, and reinstall on the replacement gas valve.

Note: The direction of flow arrow on the bottom side of the gas valve should point in the

direction of the brass orifice.

Note: Steps 12-14 are to be performed only if you presently have a White-Rogers

gas valve. If you have a Honeywell gas valve go to step 15.

12) Remove the gas valve bracket from the heater bottom.

13) Cut template along dotted line, insert into the gas valve’s old position (with arrow

pointing towards ball valve opening), and mark designated opening.
