The HP p1228 storage controller is a PCI-based RAID
controller available on each server node in a couplet,
which operates as an active-active pair.

HP p1228 storage controller

A storage enclosure that can host 25 SFF disk drives.

D2700

A storage enclosure that can host 70 LFF disk drives within
its two disk drawers.

D6000

A pool is a set of one or more physical disk drives that
serve as a backing storage for one or more RAID volumes.

Pool

The capacity of a pool is the combined capacity of all
physical disk drives that form that pool.

A volume can be viewed as a logical partition of a pool.
A volume is created with one or more disks from a given

Volume

pool and defined by a RAID level. The number of drives
in a volume should match the RAID level requirements.

A spare is a disk drive that has been assigned to provide
fail-over storage for one or more volumes in one or more

Spare

pools. If a volume experiences an unrecoverable I/O error
on a disk member in its RAID set, the RAID controller
searches through the list of spares previously assigned to
that volume and automatically selects an unused spare to
preserve the RAID level of the volume. The HP p1228 RAID
controller treats all spares as global spares.

Storage Layouts

The storage layout for the HP StoreAll 8800 is pre-defined for customers. Either D2700 or D6000
storage enclosures can be connected behind a pair of p1228 controllers.
