Shredding volumes in parity groups

You must have the Storage Administrator (Provisioning) role to perform this task.

To shred a volume:

1.

To display the Parity Groups tab, choose one of the following steps, depending on the location
of the parity group:

In the Storage Systems tree, select Parity Groups.

In the Storage Systems tree, select Parity Groups and then Internal or External.

Confirm the current status of the parity group by viewing the LDEV Status column of the table.

If the volume is already blocked, Blocked will appear in the status column.

If the volume is not blocked, a status other than Blocked will appear in the status column.
In this case, block the volume. See

3.

Select the parity group you want to block and choose one of the following steps:

Click Shred LDEVs.

Click More Actions, then select Shred LDEVs.

Click Actions, select Logical Device, then select Shred LDEVs.

Click Finish.

5.

Note the settings in the Block LDEVs window and either enter a unique task name or accept
the default name and click Apply.

If Go to tasks window for status is selected, the Tasks window will open.

Viewing shredding status with the Task window

To verify the shredding progress in the Task window:
1.

In the Storage System tree, select Task.

2.

Verify the shredding progress in the Task window that opens.

Viewing shredding status with the Logical Device window

To verify the results of shredding with the Logical Device window.
1.

In the Storage System tree, select Logical Device.

2.

Verify the shredding progress in the Logical Device window that opens.

You can verify the progress of shredding in either the Task window or the Logical Device window.
