5. Press Menu to exit to the Main Exit menu. “Exit Menu?” appears.

Cleaning the Tape Path

The tape path must be cleaned with a cleaning cartridge. When the amber
Clean indicator comes on. This indicator lights when certain tape errors are
detected or a certain length of tape has passed through the tape path.

To dry-clean the tape path:

1. If applicable, unload the tape drive.

2. Insert a cleaning cartridge into the tape drive.

3. If the cleaning cartridge ejects immediately without performing a clean

operation and the tape drive displays “Exp_CLcart,” it means that the
cleaning tape is used up. Obtain a new cleaning cartridge and repeat steps
on 1 and 2.

4. Observe the indications:

a. The green Activity indicator flashes to indicate cleaning is taking place.

b. The cartridge ejects, and the Clean indicator turns off when cleaning is

complete.

c. A displayed “CHK XXXX” message means a cleaning cartridge failure,

where “XXXX” is a fault symptom code. Try a different cleaning cartridge.

5. Remove the cleaning cartridge when the tape drive ejects the cartridge.

Caution. Do not use the cleaning cartridge unless the Clean indicator comes on. Cleaning
more frequently might cause excessive head wear.

Note. This procedure does not require the you to take the tape drive offline.

Caution. Do not wet-clean the tape path. Cleaning with chemicals or with tools other than the
cleaning cartridge is not recommended.
