3 Preparing for Database Validator
Operations

Requirements and Restrictions

To use HP Database Validator, you need the following:

A supported storage system (see “

Requirements and Restrictions

” on page 13)

Host server that supports Oracle database software

Oracle-data validation service

Requirements for the Storage System

For HP Database Validator operations, you need a storage system that has all settings of the required
hardware, microcode, and the Database Validator:

Microcode: The minimum microcode level for Database Validator operations on the
XP24000/XP20000 Disk Array is 60-03-0x.

Database Validator:The Database Validator license key must be installed on the target storage
system using the XP Remote Web Console (or SVP). For instructions on installing the Database
Validator, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Remote Web Console User’s Guide.
Note: A temporary license key (trial key) for Database Validator is not provided. You need a
permanent license key. For details, contact your HP account team.
Note: Before uninstalling the Database Validator, you need to use XP RAID Manager first to delete
the settings for all volumes being checked by Database Validator.

XP RAID Manager command device: XP RAID Manager command device is required for Database
Validator operations. The command device can be configured using either the LUN Manager in
XP Remote Web Console or the Command View XP Advanced Edition software. If LUN Manager
or Device Manager is not installed, contact your HP account team about LU configuration services.

Restriction and Cautions:
• Do not downgrade the storage system microcode (DKCMAIN program) version.
• Before uninstalling Database Validator, you need to delete the settings for the volumes being

checked by Database Validator using XP RAID Manager.

• Database Validator settings can only be deleted using XP RAID Manager.
• Before changing the configuration of the LDEVs (for example, decreasing the set LDEVs or

creating custom-size volumes), you need to delete the Database Validator settings using XP
RAID Manager and then perform the reconfiguration operation.
