Storage Management Appliance Software V2.0 User Guide

Disable daily notification between—Use this option to block notification

messages to this user during a given period each day. You define the period

by entering start and end times expressed in 24 hour format. For example, to

block notifications between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am the next morning, enter

19:00 for a start time and 7:00 for the end time.
Suppress multiple notifications—Use this option to reduce the number of

notifications sent when the same device reports events of the same severity

type repeatedly. Define a period of time during which subsequent events of

the same severity are not reported. For example, assume a device first reports

an event of Major severity at 11:00 am and every 15 minutes thereafter. Set

this option to 55 minutes and the user receives the first notification at 11:00

and the second notification at 12:00.

6. Click OK to complete the configuration of user properties for notification and

return to the Users page.

Setting Up Notifications

As a user assigned the Administrator privilege level, there are two ways you can

use the Storage Management Appliance Software to set up event notifications.

Select a discovered device or registered application and specify how each

event type should be handled. In this process you can specify both SNMP trap

forwarding and e-mail notification for each supported event type generated by

the device or application.

Select a user and specify the event types that generate an e-mail notification

message to that person. Review the supported event types for all available

devices and applications and select those that are to generate e-mail messages

to the selected user.

Setting Up Notification for a Device or Application

Use this procedure to create notification settings for event types generated by a

particular device or application.
1. Click Settings, and then click Notification to display the Notification page

containing a list of supported discovered devices and registered applications

that generate events. Note that this page lists components identified by both IP

and SAN discoveries.
