3 Deploying migration agents
Deploying server migration Source Agents
Before starting a migration, the migration agent must be running on the source and destination servers.
Therefore, verify the proper agent is applied to the source and destination server.
To launch the migration agent, you must have administrative rights to connect to the source server.
Before performing a migration, remove CDs, floppy disks, USB keys, or other detachable media from the
source server.
You can deploy the source migration agent using one of the following methods:
•
Using the Central Management Server (CMS) with Insight Control installed
•
Using the application station with standalone HP Insight Control server migration installed
•
Using executables located on the standalone Insight Control server migration application station
•
Using Install SMP Source Agent on the autorun of the HP Insight Control server migration 6.0 Boot
CD (Windows migrations only)
Migration agents
The following migration agents are available:
•
Windows server migration Source Agent (Windows Source Agent)—You must launch this agent on the
Windows source server or virtual machine before performing a migration. This agent does not run as
a service on the source server, and you must apply the agent for each migration.
•
Linux server migration Source Agent (Linux Source Agent)—You must launch this agent on the Linux
source server or virtual machine before performing a migration. This agent does not run as a service
on the source server, and you must apply the agent for each migration.
Insight Control server migration Boot CDs
•
Insight Control server migration ProLiant Boot CD—This is the default Insight Control server migration
CD. You can use this CD to install Insight Control application or server migration Source Agent, or to
boot physical destination server for X2P migrations.
•
Insight Control server migration Virtual Machine Boot CD—This CD is used to boot the destination virtual
machine for migration to virtual machine guests. This CD is available in ISO format after you install
Insight Control.

Insight Control server migration CD.

Using the Insight Control CMS to deploy the migration agent
You can deploy the migration agent through the Insight Control CMS menu or through the Systems Insight
Manager Quick Launch feature.
