STEP #9:

Remove governor tubes from old valve body. Note on some late models, the governor tube
closest to driver’s side will have a little filter screen in the end that goes into the case.
Place governor tubes in proper position on the new valve body.

STEP #10:

Sometimes the intermediate front servo will fall out when removing the old valve body.
See Fig. #2 for proper reinstallation.

STEP #11:

Carefully place Special Valve Body Spacer Plate #24114, Ball #1 and Ball #6 and the new
Spacer to Case Gasket #24150 (large) back into transmission. Bolt up downshift solenoid
to hold plate #24114 in place, but only tighten by hand “lightly”.

STEP #12:

Install valve body with governor tubes and new Spacer to Valve Body Gasket #24149 (small)
into transmission. CAUTION: Before tightening bolts in valve body, be sure to line up the
manual control valve as mentioned in STEP #3, otherwise the valve might get bent, because
the valve slides back and forth, Fig. #3. Be sure tubes are all the way in. Torque all bolts
8-10 ft/lbs. including downshift solenoid. If 1970 or newer model, hook up white wire on
valve body.

STEP #13:

Install new transmission oil filter being sure of a good fit. CAUTION: If filter is not properly
installed, a loss of oil pressure will occur. Recommend using our filter #24006 (1965-67)
models and #24011 (1968-Up) models. If 1968 or newer models, reinstall retaining bolt.

STEP #14:

Replace old pan gasket with #24148C and bolt up transmission oil pan. Refill transmission
with a good brand of Dexron/Mercon or Type F transmission fluid. Warm transmission up
and select all gears with foot on brake. Place gear selector in park. Then check to make
sure transmission level is on the add mark. Take vehicle out and drive 2 or 3 miles. Then
recheck oil level. Add oil if necessary to bring to the full mark. DO NOT OVERFILL!
