Chapter 1: Local Management Sessions

Switch Configurations

A local management session can be used to manage one switch or
several switches, depending on the configuration.

Stand-alone switches: Stand-alone switches must be managed
directly. A local management session on a stand-alone switch can be
used to managed just that switch. To manage another switch, you
must start a local management session on the other unit.

Enhanced stacks: The switches of an enhanced stack can be
managed directly like stand-alone units or through the master switch of
the stack. A local management session on the master switch lets you
manage all of the units in the stack. After you finish managing one unit,
you can redirect the management session to another unit without
having to log out. A local management session on a slave switch lets
you manage just that unit.

AT-9400Ts Stack: The switches of an AT-9400Ts Stack must be
managed through the master switch. They cannot be managed as
stand-alone units. Starting a local management session on the master
switch lets you manage all the units simultaneously.

For information on enhanced stacking and AT-9400Ts Stacks, refer to the
AT-S63 Management Software Features Guide.
