Summary

The Generic Configuration Guide contains open format configurations for pairing with SmartID,
SmartTRANS and SmartTOUCH readers to create a complete reader solution.

Format configurations are an essential building block of the SmartID reader, and required for all
SmartID reader orders. Through format configurations SmartID readers are tailored to customer
requirements.

For reader customization beyond the generic configurations, reference the 13.56 MHz How to Order
Guide, SmartID MIFARE and DESFire Reader Custom Format Request Form.

Formats are specific for one to many reader hardware and applications. Together, a hardware and
application make up a part number (for example, Hardware SmartID Mullion + Application MIFARE =
Part Number 8030DSCM) An application is the set of procedures downloaded inside of the reader
that serves a specific purpose (for example, read a MIFARE or DESFire card, or accept serial
commands for a host driven read/write application). A configuration is used by the application to
adapt reader behavior to customer specific needs (for example, output a MIFARE card serial number
in 26 bits only, read application 0x300 from a DESFire card, or configure a serial driven reader for a
RS485 hardware interface.

Included in this document are format configurations for the following reader hardware and
applications:

 SmartID and SmartTRANS HID MIFARE Application
 SmartID, SmartTRANS and SmartTOUCH MIFARE Application
 SmartID, SmartTRANS and SmartTOUCH DESFire Application
 SmartID and SmartID Desktop with RS232, T=CL Application
 SmartID Desktop with USB, PC/SC Application
