Preliminary information: Arcam’s policy is one of continuous improvement - we reserve the right to change any features without notice.

What type of audio can it play?

The DV137 decodes the following types of audio: Dolby Digital, DTS, CD-DA, DVD-

Audio, SACD, Mpeg, MP3, WMA & DiVX. This means the player is a truly universal
product for audio playback including stereo and multi channel SACD and DVD-

Audio.

What about MP3 from a DVD or

CDR?

Yes. MP3 and WMA music files can be read from a recordable CD or DVD with an

on screen menu system. This means the DV137 can have a huge amount of

compressed audio ready to play from a single disc. A simple audio juke box if you
like!

Which Digital Audio outputs does it
have?

Connections are as follows: Coax & Optical SPDIF (PCM stereo audio up to 24 bit
96kHz) and HDMI V1.1 up to 8ch 24bit 96kHz or 2 ch 192kHz. When playing DVD-

Audio and SACD the HDMI output carries PCM multi channel audio. Arcam were

the first company in the world to offer an HDMI V1.1 output on a DVD player

(DV29).

What type of audio DACs does it

use?

The Audio DACs used are Wolfson 8740s as used in the AV9 processor and CD36

CD player (4 per channel in the CD36). The 8740 is one of the most musical DACs
available.

What’s the audio circuitry like?

Arcam’s engineers have over 30 years experience in critical audio design and the
DV137s audio stages employ many of these advance engineering techniques. This

means that Arcam DVD players often sound better playing CD’s than many

company’s dedicated CD players. Arcam’s “Mask Of Silence” technologies for EMC

screening are also used which delivers better audio imaging and more fine detail.

What is “Mask of Silence”?

Although the details of “Mask of Silence” are secret the technologies involved seek

to lower Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) within products. These small high
frequency signals are generated by internal circuitry and are induced into other

parts of the same product reducing sound quality. Techniques including the

“Stealth Mat” (a randomized particle metallic sheeting) are used to remove or
diffuse these signals and therefore reduce their damaging effects. Each product

uses a fine balance of these techniques to produce the best sound quality making

it a proprietary technology and impossible to copy.

What is it’s “Always On” stereo

output all about?

To meet the requirements of the custom install market the DV137 has a dedicated

pair of analogue audio outputs which will always deliver a correctly mixed stereo

output. This is ideal for distributing the DVD players audio output to multiple
zones such as the Zone 2 feature on Arcam AV receivers and processors.

Does it have RS-232?

Yes. The DV137 has a full duplex RS232 port on a standard 9 pin “D” connector.

Being duplex means it will feedback information to a control system as well as

responding to control commands.

What about IR?

The DV137 has a 2 pin IR input on the back panel for a 3.5mm jack plug in

addition to its IR receiver on the front panel. Any remote functions that can be

toggled (standby for example) have discrete codes for each state. All IR codes are
listed in the back of the user manual.

What about the remote handset?

The DV137 will ship with a new design handset which is both sleek and
comfortable in the hand. The handset is back lit for use in dark rooms and of

logical ergonomic design.

How is the “Always On” feature

useful for installers?

The “Always On” features allow a constant signal to be fed to second rooms or full

distribution systems. Many DVD players have video and audio outputs which

switch on and off depending on what the player is doing (for example most DVD

players switch off their Composite, S-Video and RGB SCART outputs when
Progressive Component is engaged).

What about third party controllers,
will modules be written?

Yes. Modules for Crestron, AMX and the like will be written for the DV137. See the
Arcam Dealer Extranet for up to date information.
