Rugged Ridge Tow Hooks & Frame Brackets, 84-01 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) - Manual

1) Properly block and secure vehicle prior to installation. Located the vacuum bottle
on the inside of the passenger side of the bumper, mark and disconnect the
lines. Remove the factory bumper bolts; retain these bolts they will be reused.
2) Completely remove factory bumper.
3) Once bumper is removed place tow hook brackets to the side of the frame where
the bumper was bolted. Run the carriage bolt through the bracket and frame,
install the washer and lock nut. Snug up the bolt but do not tighten.
4) The factory bumper brackets will now have to be adjusted wider, loosen the bolts
and spread the brackets ¼” wider on both sides and tighten.
5) Slide the bumper over the tow hook brackets and replace the original hardware.
6) Once the bumper is installed, check to see if it is straight and then tighten.
Torque the ½” bolts to 65-ft.lbs. Torque the factory bumper mounting bolts to 45-
ft.lbs. Connect the lines that were marked when removed.
7) Install the tow hooks to the tow hook bracket just installed, torque these tow hook
bolts too 65ft-lbs.
8) Recheck all bolts and nuts once when finished and after the first couple of uses.
