Unpacking Your Tool
• Carefully unpack and inspect your tool. Fully familiarise yourself with all its
features and functions
• Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If any parts
are missing or damaged, have such parts replaced before attempting to use
this tool
Operating Instructions
• Before you use your saw, it is recommended that you practice on scrap
material. The settings of the machine are crucial to achieving a good
quality finish, and your work could easily be damaged by using an
incorrect setting
• Always disconnect the saw from the power supply before fitting or
removing any accessory
Fitting a Blade
• Always check that a suitable blade is selected for the job that is to be
done (refer to blade manufacturers literature before use)
• Only fit blades that are in perfect condition. Blunt, bent, and cracked
blades should be discarded
1. Depress the Spindle Lock Button (8), and use hex key supplied to undo
the Blade Locking Screw (1)
2. Remove the metal washer and outer locating flange from the spindle
3. Use the Guard Retraction Lever (2) to rotate the guard out of the way and
fit the blade on the spindle
4. Fit the blade so that the direction arrow is uppermost and pointing anti-
clockwise
5. Replace the outer locating flange, metal washer and blade locking screw
6. Depress the Spindle Lock Button (8), and tighten the blade locking screw
fully using the hex key supplied
7. Ensure that blade is secure before use
Setting Bevel Angle
This saw is equipped with a tilting Base Plate (5). This allows bevel cuts to be
made up to 45˚. To alter the angle of the base plate:
1. Loosen the bevel locking screw. The base plate will now be free to pivot
2. Adjust the base plate to the required angle
3. Retighten the bevel locking screw
4. To ensure accuracy, check the angle between the blade and the base
plate using a suitable protractor
Setting Depth of Cut
To set the depth of cut:
1. Loosen the depth locking screw. The base plate is now free to adjust to
the required depth
2. Adjust the base plate to the required depth. You can use the depth scale
(calibrated in mm) to set a specific depth of cut
3. Retighten the depth locking screw
4. When set correctly, the blade teeth should project approx 3mm from the
underside of the material being cut
Handling your Circular Saw
• Always use both handles when handling the saw
• Use clamps where appropriate to ensure that work will not move whilst being
cut
• Always allow the blade to come to a complete stop before putting the
machine down
• Always disconnect the machine if it is to be left unattend ed
Making a Cut
• Hold the saw securely and rest the front edge of the Base Plate (5) on the
edge of the workpiece
• Check that the blade is not in contact with the workpiece, or any other object
• To start the machine, depress the Lock-Off Button (12) and squeeze the
ON/OFF Trigger Switch (11)
• Allow the motor to reach full speed
• Smoothly push the saw forward across the workpiece
• Maintain a steady movement, ensuring that the base plate is kept
pressed against the workpiece
• Use the guide notch on the front edge of the base plate to align the cut
• For normal cutting align the notch marked '0˚' with the line to be cut
• For 45˚ bevel cutting align the notch marked '45˚' with the line to be cut
Completing the Cut
• Allow the blade to pass through to the end of the material before
releasing the trigger switch
• Alternatively, if you wish to stop cutting before the edge of the workpiece:
Release the trigger switch and allow the blade to stop moving prior to
lifting the saw out of the workpiece
• Do not place the machine down until the blade has stopped completely
Using the Parallel Guide Fence
When working parallel to an edge, use the Parallel Guide Fence (6)
• Attach the guide fence to the Base Plate (5), and secure using the Guide
Locking Screw (4). Ensure that the guide fence is attached securely
before cutting
• The position of the guide fence can be adjusted according to the nature of
the task
• To follow an edge keep the vertical foot of the guide fence pressed
against the vertical edge to be followed as the cut is made
Maintenance
WARNING: Always remove the plug from the mains power supply before carrying
out any maintenance/cleaning.
Cleaning
• Keep your machine clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts
to wear quickly, and shorten the machine’s service life. Clean the body of your
machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth. If available, use clean, dry, compressed
air to blow through the ventilation holes
Brushes
• Over time the carbon brushes inside the motor may become worn. Excessively
worn brushes may cause loss of power, intermittent failure or visible sparking
• If you suspect that the brushes may be worn, have the machine serviced at an
authorised service centre
Disposal
• Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic
equipment, with household waste
• Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct way
to dispose of tools
