8. Faults

Faults

Causes

Measures

Not possible to insert the

temperature sensor into the

thermowell

Foreign bodies in the thermowell

Remove foreign bodies

Damaged or contaminated

thermowell or temperature sensor

fastening thread

Clean or recut the thread

Sensor dimension and those of the

inner diameter of the thermowell do

not match

Check order documentation

Thermowell or sensor has been bent

or damaged during installation

Return for repair

Leakage of process media

at the connection between the

process and the thermowell

Error during installation or defective

seals

Check the seal, check the

tightening torques

from the interface between the

thermowell and the sensor

Damage, e.g. caused by operating

the thermowell under a resonant

vibration load

Safe operation of the

plant can no longer be

guaranteed

(in the worst case, this

might result in a complete

rupture of the thermowell)

In the case of critical installations, we recommend calculating the harmonic frequency of

the thermowell according to ASME PTC 19.3 or Dittrich/Klotter. This engineering service is

offered by WIKA.

CAUTION!

If faults cannot be eliminated by means of the measures listed above, the

instrument must be withdrawn from use immediately, it must be ensured that

there is no longer any pressure and/or signal and they must be prevented from

being inadvertently put back into service.

In this case, contact the manufacturer.

If a return is needed, follow the instructions given in chapter "9.2 Return".
