For desktop computers, do the following to activate the TPM:

1. Go to the Web site at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-75407.

2. Click Visual Basic sample scripts to use when configuring BIOS settings to download the

sample_script_m90.zip file. Then extract the zip file.

3. Type cscript.exe SetConfig.vbs SecurityChip Active in the Command Prompt window to execute the

SetConfig.vbs file.

4. Restart your computer.

For all ThinkStation desktop computer models and ThinkPad notebook computer models earlier than T400
(for example, T61), activate the TPM using the TPM activation tool or the css_manage_vista_tpm.exe file.

Using the TPM activation tool (Windows XP)

The tpm_activate_cmd.exe file is used to activate or deactivate the TPM on the Windows XP operating
systems.

Note: You need administrator privileges to run this tool. Before running this tool, you need to install the latest
SMBios and SMBus drivers.

Table 17. Parameters for activating or deactivating the TPM on the Lenovo system

Parameter

Description

/help or /?

Displays the list of parameters.

/biospw:password

Specifies the BIOS supervisor or administrator password
if one is set.

/deactivate

Deactivates the TPM.
Note: If you run tpm_activate_cmd.exe without parameter
/deactivate, it will activate the TPM by default.

/verbose

Displays a text output.

Example:

tpm_activate_cmd.exe /?
tpm_activate_cmd.exe /verbose
tpm_activate_cmd.exe /biospw:pass

Using the css_manage_vista_tpm.exe file (Windows Vista or Windows 7)

The css_manage_vista_tpm.exe file is used to activate or deactivate the TPM on the Windows Vista or
Windows 7 operating systems when Client Security Solution is installed.

Note: You need administrator privileges to run this tool.

css_manage_vista_tpm.exe [/verbose] [/showinfo | /getstate | setstate: <state>]

where

/verbose displays the text output. The default setting is silent operation.

/showinfo displays the TPM information, for example, the vendor, firmware version, physical presence,
and interface version.

/getstate displays the current TPM status. The TPM has the following types of status:

• Enabled
