To connect the cables, do the following:

1. Do one of the following:

• For the ThinkServer RAID 500 Adapter, use one 700 mm (27.56 inches) mini-SAS to mini-SAS

signal cable. Connect the mini-SAS connector

to the port 0 on the RAID card. Then, connect

the mini-SAS connector

to the mini-SAS signal cable connector 1 on the 2.5-inch hot-swap

hard-disk-drive backplane.

• For the ThinkServer RAID 700 Adapter, use one 700 mm (27.56 inches) mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal

cable. Connect the mini-SAS connector

to the ports 3-0 on the RAID card. Then, connect

the mini-SAS connector

to the mini-SAS signal cable connector 1 on the 2.5-inch hot-swap

hard-disk-drive backplane.

2. If you have more than four 2.5-inch hard disk drives installed, do one of the following. Otherwise, go

to the next step.

• For the ThinkServer RAID 500 Adapter, use the other 700 mm (27.56 inches) mini-SAS to mini-SAS

signal cable. Connect the mini-SAS connector

to the port 1 on the RAID card. Then, connect

the mini-SAS connector

to the mini-SAS signal cable connector 2 on the 2.5-inch hot-swap

hard-disk-drive backplane.

• For the ThinkServer RAID 700 Adapter, use the other 700 mm (27.56 inches) mini-SAS to mini-SAS

signal cable. Connect the mini-SAS connector

to the ports 7-4 on the RAID card. Then, connect

the mini-SAS connector

to the mini-SAS signal cable connector 2 on the 2.5-inch hot-swap

hard-disk-drive backplane.

3. Use the 2-pin 200 mm (7.87 inches) RAID card to system board hard-disk-drive LED cable. Connect

one end

to the external connector on the RAID card and the other end

to the hard-disk-drive

LED connector on the system board.

Note: The location of the external connector on the RAID card differs depending on the type of RAID
card. For information about the RAID card connectors, see “RAID card” on page 33.

Connecting cables for models with up to four 3.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drives and one backplane

For server models with up to four 3.5-inch SATA hot-swap hard disk drives and one backplane, you can
connect the cables in one of the following ways:
