ALUMINUM HAWSE FAIRLEAD INSTALLATION

The Poison Spyder Customs Aluminum Hawse

Fairlead will add great looks and Poison Spyder

attitude to the front of your 4X4. This billet

aluminum fairlead is CNC machined to provide a

strong, smooth guide for your synthetic winchline

and installs with a few simple tools. Please

read through these entire instructions before

proceeding with installation.

PARTS LIST

(1) Aluminum Hawse Fairlead
(2) 3/8-16 X 1 SS button head cap screw
(4) 3/8 flat washer
(2) 3/8-16 nylon insert lock nut

TOOLS NEEDED

• 7/32” hex key socket and ratchet
• 9/16” combination end wrench

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: The Aluminum Hawse Fairlead is intended

for use with synthetic winchline only. DO NOT

use with steel cable. If you run steel cable, you

will need to use a suitable steel Hawse or roller-

style fairlead. These instructions assume that

you already have synthetic winchline installed

on your winch. If you have not installed your

synthetic winchline yet, please do so according

to the winchline manufacturer’s instructions.
VERY IMPORTANT: Read and follow your winch

manufacturer’s Owners Manual and Operating

Instructions prior to operating your winch. Follow

all safety precautions during any operation of

your winch.

1. Park the vehicle in a suitable workspace

and set the parking brake. Use the winch

controller to loosen tension in the winchline

and feed out a couple feet of line. Disconnect

the negative battery cable in order to ensure

power is cut to the winch.

2. Remove any existing hook or shackle

from your winchline thimble (assuming the

winchline is already installed). Remove the

existing fairlead by removing the two bolts at

either side of the fairlead.

3. Insert the thimble end of the winchline

through the Poison Spyder fairlead, from the

back (the side without the Poison Spyder

logo).

4. Position the fairlead on the bumper or

fairlead mounting plate, with the bolt holes

aligned. The fairlead should be positioned

so that winchline may roll/unroll onto the

bottom of the winch drum without obstruction

or tight angles.

5. Use the provided hardware to bolt the

Poison Spyder fairlead to your bumper

or fairlead mount. Place one of the flat

washers under the head of each button head

cap screw, to protect the powdercoat finish

when tightening. Install the other flat washer

between the locknut and the back side of the

bumper or fairlead mount.

6. Reinstall the hook or shackle to the thimble

on the end of the winchline, then “hang”

the hook on a nearby tow point where you

usually keep it when not in use. Put the

winch gearbox in neutral and manually roll

up the slack in the winchline, then re-engage
