INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
These transmissions were available in Jeep vehicles 1980-86. They are light duty and can be used with V8 power,
provided power shifting is avoided. The overall length of the transmissions are 15-3/8" and when used with the new
adapter and a Chevy V8 engine, you can usually avoid driveshaft modifications. The clutch linkage will need to be
remounted onto the side of the Chevy V8. We offer a special clutch bracket for use with the original Jeep mechanical
linkage. The clutch bracket assembly is available under Part No. 716638.
1. Install the pilot bushing into the engine crank.
2. Remove the original transmission bearing retainer from the front of the transmission and cut off the snout making
sure to leave the seal intact, and that the retainer does not interfere with the new retainer when assemble.
3. Drill the top 2 transmission holes with a 1/2" diameter drill.
4. Using (2) hex head cap screws, bolt the adapter to the bellhousing from the inside of the bellhousing. The ends of
the bolts must not protrude through the plate and interfere with the transmission. Caution must be used to insure
that the retainer fits snugly into the bellhousing bore. This kit is designed for use with Chevy bellhousings that have
4.686" diameter bores.
5. With the (2) flat head machine screws, bolt the bottom of the adapter to the bellhousing. Make sure that the head
of the bolt is below the surface of the adapter.
6. Bolt the transmission to the adapter plate using the (4) 7/16"-14 x 1-1/4" bolts.
