Installation instructions for RULER Series

WARNING: These products may represent a possible shock or fire hazard if improperly installed or attached in any way.
Products should be installed in accordance with these instructions, current electrical codes and/or the current
National Electric Code (NEC).

CAUTION - To reduce risk of fire, electric shock or injury to persons:

1. This light is intended for indoor use only.

4. Not intended for lighting aquariums.

3. Mount light only to surfaces that are mechanically sound.

2. Do not link more watts in a series than the maximum capacity of the driver. See RULER wattages below* and Table 1.

5. Use only with factory-recommended 350mA power supply
(sold separately). Factory warranty will be void if used with
a non-recommended power supply, transformer or driver.
6. Not intended for recessed application.

MOUNTING LED RULER
Each run requires a RULER-CONKIT, sold separately.
Note: To ensure proper placement of the LED Ruler lighting system, it is recommended that all Rulers,
inline connectors or linking extensions, power cord and end cap be interconnected to determine total
length prior to installation. Also consider location of power supply and how lead wires to the lead
fixture will be routed. Make sure the total number of LEDs does not exceed the maximum. See Table 1.
1. Locate desired position for light. Remember to leave 1” clearance at both ends to plug in power supply
cord, connector(s) or end cap. In order for the fixture to light, each end must have a connector of some
kind or an end cap attached so that the required series wiring ‘loop’ is complete.
2. Attach clips to fixture and mark location of corners of mounting clips .
3. Remove mounting clips from fixture and hold one at a time at each
marked location. Now, mark the location of mounting holes.
4. Install clips with screws provided and snap lead fixture into clips.
5. Repeat steps (1-4) for each of the remaining lights.
6. Attach end cap to last fixture to complete the series and attach power
cord to lead fixture. See Figure 1.

ATTACHING POWER SUPPLY

NOTE: The LED Ruler is designed for use with a switched outlet only,
unless the LED-DR18-350D driver is used. If you connect a non-dimming
driver to a dimmer, it will likely damage the dimmer, or the driver, or both permanently
.
For dimmers tested with LED-DR18-350D, visit americanlighting.com, RULER product page, dimmable link.

1. When using plug-in power supply LED-DR10-350PI, connect the driver’s lead wires to the lead wires of the
power cord using a terminal block or wire nuts, making sure to match polarity: black and white striped lead
wire is positive (to be connected to red lead from power supply); solid black lead wire is negative (to be
connected to black lead from power supply). If the positive and negative leads are reversed when
connecting to a recommended 350mA power supply (as noted in the chart above), the LEDs will not be
damaged in any way. They will simply not light up
until the polarity is correct.
2. When connecting to a hardwire or diammable driver, enclose the driver in a rated junction box and connect
wires using a terminal block or wire nuts, making sure to match polarity (as detailed in previous step).
3. Secure lead wires to mounting surface with insulated staples, as necessary.
LINKING UNITS
1. An inline connector is supplied with each fixture. If a ‘jumper’ or extension is needed, use only RULER type
such as RULER-EX6 (6” length), RULER-EX12 (12” length), or RULER-EX36 (36” length); each sold separately.
A corner connector (RULER-90) is sold separately for connecting fixtures at 90 degrees to each other.
2. Do not exceed the maximum wattage capacity of the power supply in any series.

*NOTE: RULER-2 = 2.5 watts; RULER-3 = 3.75 watts; RULER-4 = 5 watts; RULER-5 = 6.25 watts
