SPECIFICATIONS  

For  

Underground  Medium  Voltage  Cable  Pulling  System  w/Air  Compressor  

 
 
For   your   bid   to   be   considered,   documentation   of   adherence   to   the   following   specified   items  
must  be  supplied  with  bid:  
 

1.0 GENERAL  DESCRIPTION  

 

1.1 The  pulling  system  shall  have  a  7500  lb  pulling  capacity  with  hydraulically  driven  capstan  

bullwheels.    

1.2 The   unit   shall   have   a   constant   pulling   capacity   of   7500   lbs   w/maximum   speed   of   175  

feet/minute   and   be   equipped   with   footage   counter   and   dynamometer   to   meter   actual  
conductor  pulling  lengths  and  tensions.    

1.3 The  system  shall  be  powered  by  a  liquid  cooled,  diesel  engine  (minimum  34  HP).  
1.4 The   unit   shall   have   an   electronic   information   center   which   provides   digital   readout   of  

pulling  tensions,  pulling  distance  and  hydraulic  pressures.  It  should  also  allow  for  preset  
of  pull  tension  with  automatic  shut  off,  if  exceeded.    

1.5 The  unit  shall  have  an  infinitely  variable  joystick  control  for  on  demand  payout/pullback  -­‐  

eliminating  cable  storage  reel  over  spin  (backlash)  -­‐  from  both  an  onboard  control  panel  
and  a  tethered  remote  control.    

1.6 The  trailer  shall  be  constructed  of  rugged  high  strength  steel  channel  &  tubing  –  welded  

solid  for  rigidity  and  shall  be  equipped  with  an  adjustable  Pintle  eye,  mechanical  leveling  
jacks,  tool  box,  electric  road  brakes  and  DOT  standard  lighting.    

 

2.0 GENERAL  SPECIFICATIONS  

 

2.1 Engine  (Puller):  34HP,  Four  Cylinder,  Liquid  Cooled  Diesel  w/Electric  Start  
2.2 Air  Compressor:  185  CFM  @  120  PSI,  Self-­‐Contained,  Liquid  Cooled  Diesel  Engine  
2.3 Fuel  Capacity:  Air  Compressor  –  20  Gallons,  Puller  –  18  Gallons  
2.4 Totally   Hydraulically   Driven   Puller   w/40   GPM   Pump   &   Motor   w/20   Gallon   Filtered  

Hydraulic  Fluid  Reservoir  

2.5 Auxiliary  Hydraulic  Tool  Circuit:  7  GPM  @  2000  PSI  (for  Hand  Tools  /  Pumps  /  etc)  
2.6 Bullwheels:  Twin  Capstan  (8.5”  x  6  Groove)  
2.7 Pulling  Speed:  175  fpm  (maximum)  @  7500  lbs  
2.8 Hydraulic   Boom:   Boom   Shall   Hydraulically   Raise/Lower   and   Pivot   Left/Right   At   Least  

Fifteen  Degrees    

2.9 Pulling  Rope:  2600’  x  3/8”  Anti-­‐Twist,  Braided  Style  Cable  Specifically  Designed  for  Pulling  

Operations   –   Allows   for   Industry   Standard   Swivel   Usage   –   Locking   Connectors   Not  
Required  

2.10 Pulling  Cable  Level  Wind:  Mechanical  (Brass  Finger  in  Grooved  Steel  Shaft)  
2.11 Control   Panel:   Located   at   Optimal   Height   for   Operator   Safety   and   Ease   of   Use  

w/Complete   Engine   Instrumentation,   Joystick   Pulling   Controls,   Emergency   Stop   Switch  
and  Dynamometer  for  Presetting  and  Monitoring  Pulling  Tensions.    

2.12 Footage  Counter:  Monitors  Actual  Footage  of  Cable  in  Both  Pay  Out  and  Pull  Back  Modes.    
2.13 Remote   Control:   Tethered   Remote   Control   w/   25’   Range   w/Joystick   Control   for  

Payout/Pullback  and  Emergency  Stop  Switch.
