1. Choose the correct size sheave depending upon the cable’s outer

diameter and the cable manufacturer’s recommended cable bending

radius. Refer to the Condux Cable Installation Equipment & Tools

Catalog for sheave dimensions.

2. Hang the

sheave in the manhole using a rope attached to the

sheave support arm. Position the sheave so that the cable

contacts the sheave in a horizontal line.

3. Attach a

load-rated chain between the sheave tie-down arm and

a

pulling-in iron. If no pulling-in irons are present or usable, use a

Condux Jamb Skid.

4. If the sheave is angled away from the duct, use a Condux

alignment arm to keep the cable from jumping off the sheave.

For installation or removal from existing cables, the sheave tie-down arm

can be split and swung out of the way. Simply remove a locking pin from

the side of the arm and swing the yoke out of the way. Only the supplied

locking pin or grade 8 bolt should be used to lock yoke to arm.

Load Rating Information

All Condux Hooked Hanger Sheaves are load rated for 10,000 pounds

of line tension. If used to guide cable around a 90° arc, the hanger arms

could be subjected up to 14,000 lbs of force. If used to guide cable

around a 180° arc, the hanger arms could be subjected up to 20,000 lbs

of force. All tie-down accessories must be load rated to handle these

pulling forces.
