Using a UBEC1C to control an E3F or E5F actuated valve

Refer to Unibody valve installation and instruction manual p/n 99329000.

The manual can be found online at

The UBEC1C controller is designed to control an E3F or E5F actuated valve. The

UBEC1C must be wired for CAN communication with an E3F or E5F actuated valve.

Part number 08899152 includes a UBEC1C controller with harnessing for connecting

controller power and CAN communication.

Installation; see section lV, page 6 of the manual.

Wiring; Figure 1 shows the harness required for controller power and communication

between the UBEC1C and the E3F or E5F. The 6 pin connector on this harness plugs

into the mating connector of the UBEC1C controller. Connect the red (+) & black (-)

wires of this harness to 1 amp fused 12v (or 0.5 amp fused 24v) truck power & ground

using the heat shrinkable crimp connectors. The harness in figure 2 shows the harness

for CAN communication with the E3F or E5F actuator. It connects to its mating

connector on the figure 1 harness and has three leads ending with heat shrinkable

crimp connectors. The harness in figure 3 is included with the actuator. The 12 pin

connector on the harness plugs into the top of the E3F or E5F actuator. Connect the red

(+) & black (-) wires of this harness to 30 amp fused 12v (or 15 amp fused 24v) truck

power & ground using the heat shrinkable crimp connectors. The 2 pin Packard

connector will plug into its mating connector on the lead from the actuators electric

motor. This harness also includes a connector for CAN communication (Figure 2) that

has three leads ending with heat shrinkable crimp connectors. Use 18-22 ga wire to

interconnect the CAN connectors at the E3F or E5F actuator and UBEC1C controller.

Connect green to green, blue to blue, and black to black. Maintaining wire color code

will greatly reduce risk of errors. Crimp the connectors securely onto the stripped wires

and use a heat gun to shrink and seal the connections.

Final wiring check; Check that all unused connector positions have seal plugs in them,

that wires are in the correct positions in their connectors, and that their contacts are

locked securely into the connectors and can not come back out.
