KITCHEN HOOD COLLAR INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Field supplied kitchen hood collars should be installed as described below:

COLLAR INSTALLATION

The installation of hood collars is to be in accordance with NFPA 96, Standard for
Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking operations. NFPA 96
has a number of duct and collar construction and installation requirements. Consult
NFPA 96 and all applicable local codes before installing collars in the hood.

Exhaust collar opening(s), unless factory pre-cut, are to be cut into the top or rear of the filter
plenum, staying within the boundaries which are factory marked on the hood(s) . Exhaust duct
and collar sizing should be in accordance with NFPA 96, with a minimum duct velocity of 1500
FPM. Collar(s) normally should be located as close to the center of the hood length as pos-
sible. On hood sections exceeding 8' to 10', multiple collars are recommended; also consult
local codes for collar spacing and quantity requirements. If the collar(s) has not been shipped
loose with the hood(s) it is recommended that a minimum of 16 gauge stainless steel angle,
1” x 1” or larger be used to fabricate the collar(s). Do not overlap the angle at the corners, or

a tight fit will not occur where the collar(s) and hood(s) are to be joined. The collar(s) should
then be continuously welded around the opening(s).

If hood is an "energy saving" or "tempered air" hood with supply air plenum, supply collar
opening(s), unless factory pre-cut, are to be cut into the top of the plenum, staying within the
boundaries which are factory marked on the hood(s). Supply duct and collar sizing should be
with a maximum duct velocity of 1000 to 1500 FPM. Collar(s) normally should be located as
close to the center of the hood length as possible. On hoods sections exceeding 8' to 10', mul-
tiple collars are recommended: also consult local codes for collar spacing and quantity require-
ments. Edges of cut insulation should be covered or sealed as appropriate. Consult NFPA 96

and local codes for supply air fire damper requirements and provide as needed. If the collar(s)
has not been shipped loose with the hood(s) it is recommended that a minimum of 16 gauge
stainless steel angle, 1” x 1” or larger be used to fabricate the collar(s). Do not overlap the

angle at the corners, or a tight fit will not occur where the collar(s) and hood(s) are to be joined.
The collar(s) should then be continuously or spot welded around the opening(s).

After installation of all required collars, complete hood installation as described in the
